Hermès just released their refillable Rouge Brillant Silky Lipsticks. There are 14 permanent shades, along with 3 limited edition lipsticks. I grabbed 4, Brun d’Ambre, Brun Sellier, Corail Jaipur and Rose Boise.  This is the first permanent lipstick collection from Gregoris Pyrpylis, the creative director for Hermès Beauty.  To say I was excited to try these  is an understatement.

Rouge Brillant Silky Lipsticks

This collection has shades that run the gamut, so there is something for all tastes.  It’s a very thoughtful, inclusive, release. I wanted to make sure I tried out colors across the spectrum, to see how they’d show up on my lips.

Texture & Formula

– With the atelier’s silks as inspiration, these lipsticks have a sheer finish, with light to medium coverage.  They feel nourishing, and lightweight, on the lips, and live up to their silky name.

–  Composed of 85% natural origin ingredients, these lipsticks are where makeup and skin care meet.

– Some hero ingredients, per the brand, are raspberry and sesame seed extracts, abyssinian plant oil and white mulberry tree extract.

– There is a beautifully soft scent of arnica, sandalwood and angelica, made from the brand’s perfumer, Christine Nagel.

Brun d’Ambre

Described as a, “golden brown, with a pink, coppery pearlescent sheen,” this was the shade I was most excited for.  Brun d’Ambre is the least pigmented of the four I got, but that is not a dig. It’s has tiny flecks, that give the lipstick a slight sparkle. I get the orange/brown shades on my lip, and this would work as an every day shade.

Corail Jaipur

The Indian city of Jaipur, and the pink & orange hues that drape the city, are the inspiration for Corail Jaipur. The “pink-tinged coral hue” is a bold one.

At this point in my life, I’m loving bright lipstick shades with a dark pencils. I didn’t know if I’d love it on its own, but I ended up loving it with, and without, a lip liner. I can’t get enough of a sheer, bright, lipstick. This one builds up beautifully too!

Brun Sellier

The Brun Sellier shade is “an intense natural brown, elevated by a hint of red.” Taking Inspiration from the atelier’s leathers, this was an easy choice. This shade is a moody one, but also very rich. There is a nice bit of pigmentation, and wears on me as almost a deep berry shade. It’s really, really, lovely.

Rose Boisé

I was happily surprised by this one! They’ve called it a, “subtle, elegant rosewood tinged with mauve.”  It shows up on me as a rosewood, which I love, and it too has nice pigmentation. Rose Boise wasn’t even on my radar, but ultimately, the shade description won me over.  The truth is, I LOVE a nude lipstick.

The Design

The new “object,” as the brand refers to each makeup piece, is much slimmer than the previously released cases. They managed to make an already chic design chicer with the Rouge Brillant Silky Lipsticks. Additionally, each lipstick is housed in a beautiful Rouge H canvas pouch, along with an orange box.

Refillable

Part of me admiring the Hermès makeup branch is how they pull in the best, from across the brand.  From having their perfumer give delicate scents to the different products, to Pierre Hardy, their creative director of fine jewelry, designing the cases for all the makeup, each release is a collaborative effort.

Refillable makeup products are in right now, and I’m all for it! Aside from being the less expensive purchase, they keep me from throwing away more plastic.  Furthermore, I find refills are often the much lighter option when traveling, or just moving through the day.

In the end

I’ve loved all the Hermès lipstick formulas, except the mattes from the initial launch.  We just haven’t gotten along.  Their balms are fantastic for me, as are their satin lipsticks.  They’ve also played around with formulas in their limited edition releases that I enjoy as well.

These Rouge Brillant Silky Lipsticks are my new favorites. They’re absolutely beautiful, and I think they will work really well, across different skin tones. We’re going to get other lip products this year, from the brand, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store. Until then!
