I’m digging into the new Fara Homidi Beauty makeup, brought to us from makeup artist, Fara Homidi. The clean beauty brand just released their new Essential Face Compact, Refills and Buffer Brush. Towards the end of last year, they released their Essential Lip Compacts, Refills, as well as their Smudge and Contour Lip Pencils.
A little about the brand
As I mentioned, Fara Homidi is a makeup artist, based in NYC (my hometown). She is of Afghan descent, but moved to the States when she was young. That was one of the main reasons I wanted to try the brand. As a black woman, I love supporting women of color beauty brands. Because I’m now based in Europe, the pickings can be slim. What I have found is when a woman of color is behind a brand, brown skin tones are considered from their launch, in an industry that all too often ignores our needs. Fara Homidi Beauty is not one of those brands.

Essential Face Compact
Their Essential Face Compact was released just a few weeks ago. I chose the Smooth Veil Soft Matte in the shade Imaan, which was one of the 15 shade available at launch. It’s one of those products I think we’ll see more and more of, where it’s not so easy to define. The veil can be used as a concealer, a light to medium coverage foundation, or tint. It can be used to cover blemishes. This really is the product you want it to be, with some great ingredients. Along with the veil, there is the added bonus of a Shine Baume in the compact as well.

What the brand says
- Customizable complexion system
- Smooth Veil Soft Matte has a medium build soft focus finish
- Shine Baume has a luminous glow that can create three-dimensional effect
There are some great hero ingredients between the veil and baume, like ginger root extract, cupuaçu butter, kaolin clay, sunflower seed oil, hyper reflective mica and more.
I’ve been using it as a concealer, and as a face tint. I can attest to it having a medium build. It actually built up beautifully. Each shade has some stretch. So, while I wear Imaan, I probably could have made the shade below, and perhaps above mine work. It just turned out that Imaan was perfect for my skin tone. The shade adapted to my yellow undertones perfectly. Listen, if you’re like me, and you really just want something to pull your face together quickly, but still look like yourself, you’ll love this product. It’s you, with al little umph.

While it has a matte finish. I like a little glow, so a base with a little glow gives me the perfect natural glow finish. Speaking of glow, the baume works beautifully as a highlighter, on the high points of my face. It’s my preferred way to wear it. This Essential Face Palette blew me away, instantly!
Essential Lip Compact and Refill
Lip products were the initial launch for the brand, because Fara says it is the body part she is obsessed with. I can’t lie, there is something so beautiful about the perfect color lip on a woman. It draws attention to the whole face. Even when it’s a color I don’t love on myself, I can always appreciate a beautiful lip color. I’m not a red person, so I went with the Nude 1 and Nude 2. Nude 1 came in the beautiful blue compact, while Nude 2 was in the blue refill packaging. The compact is a welcomed stand out color in my collection. More on the packaging in a bit.
Nude 1

Each compact, and refill, is filled with the lip color, and a lip balm. The Colour Plush Soft Matte is incredibly pigmented, lightweight and it does last a really long time. Nude 1 is described as a, “mid-tone pinky nude with a neutral undertone.” Pinks can be tricky on me, which is why I tend to go with deeper pinks, because they don’t require pencils. However, Nude 1 wears beautifully on me, and it shines with, or without a liner.

The Prime Baume is fantastic!! As soon as I applied it I hoped it was something the brand would offer in a bullet one day. My lips feel incredibly nourishing when wearing it. It’s also a semi-matte, so it adheres to the lips in the nicest way. It sets the lip color up beautifully, and extends the wear time. The addition of the baume, in each compact, is incredibly thoughtful. Luxury beauty is all the about the details!
Nude 2

Nude 2 is the shade I coveted the most, and it didn’t disappoint! The Colour Plush Soft Matte looked so interesting in photos. It is described as a “medium-dark nude with a warm blue undertone.” It’s the yummiest shade. Worn on me, it’s the most flattering orange brown shade. Each lipstick can be built up to full opacity, or worn as light as a stain. You definitely have options with these products. And, there was no sinking into any fine lines, which is very important to me.

They’re even perfect as blushes. In my photos, I’m wearing Nude 1 as a blush. They’re filled with some hero ingredients too. Cupuaçu butter, cherry seed oil, squalane and meadowfoam are just some of the beautiful ingredients protecting and nourishing our lips. I’m really looking forward to the brand extending their shade range, because the products are beautiful.

Smudge & Contour Lip Pencil + Buffer Brush
I bought the Smudge & Contour Lip Pencil in Bruni, a “very deep, dark brown with a hint of warmth.” Listen, I grew up in the 90s, the time of dark brown lip pencils. We believed a dark brown lipstick matches any, and every, lip color. LOL. I still live by that belief. My go to is absolutely a dark brown pencil and Bruni is an absolute beaut. It’s creamy, easy to smudge and just feels great on my lips. The blend of vegan oils and waxes makes for a really nourishing wear. Each Lip Pencil comes with a sharpener, in the same blue as the compact and refill.

Handcrafted in Japan, the Buffer Brush is small but mighty. One side is flat and the other side is curved. They suggest using the flat side for the Shine Baume, and the curved side for the Soft Matte Veil. As a tint brush, it does take me a little longer to apply over my face, but the application is seamless. I think it really shines as a concealer brush, and it fits under the eye beautifully. It is made of vegan bristles, and comes in its own storage pouch.

Packaging
As I mentioned earlier, Fara Homidi Beauty is a clean beauty brand. I’ve found most of the clean beauty brands I buy, at the very least, come with some earth friendly packaging. The Essential Face and Lip Compacts are made of hand lacquered metal, with the refills made of 42% cellulose-based plastic. When you buy a refill, the case it comes in is reusable. The compacts have a nice weight, and feel substantial in the hand.

Each product comes in a paper box. Although made of paper, the boxes still live up to the luxury brand’s products. Visually, from the packaging to the actual products, everything looks very chic.

Overall, I had a fantastic experience using the brand for the first time. They exceeded the high expectations I had for them. Fara should be proud. For those women who like makeup that simply enhances what they have, they will love this line.
